Letter: More money won’t improve school system
Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004 | 8:59 a.m.
According to your Jan. 23 editorial Clark County School District Superintendent Carlos Garcia is doing a great job because he managed to confiscate more money from the already overtaxed workers of Nevada. Also, he says if he were only able to get more, the school system would be better. This premise simply is not correct.
The District of Columbia has the highest per-pupil funding of any school district in the country. Yet it has by far the lowest test scores of any district. The situation became so bad that the federal government had to take control of it.
Garcia is a typical government employee, always crying that there isn't enough funding for his vast programs. When will it be enough? How many more dollars will have to be wasted until educrats and the editorial board of the Sun get the message that educational results are not a factor of money spent? I fear the answers are "never" and "hundreds of millions."
