Letter: Cheney slips into town like a mob boss bagman
Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004 | 9:05 a.m.
Regarding Vice President Dick Cheney's recent fund-raising trip to Las Vegas: It's just like the old days when the Eastern mob bosses surreptitiously sent their bagmen to Las Vegas to pick up skimmed casino profits and then slip out of town. Now, the Bush administration again sends it chief bagman, Dick Cheney, to grab the cash at a big Republican fund-raiser and slip out of town. Without a word to the press or public, he pulls the lever without investing a cent and hits the quarter-million-dollar jackpot -- ka-ching!
This treatment of Nevada citizens only as a convenient ATM shows a lack of courage and is demeaning and insulting, especially when we face the most serious issue in this state's history -- Yucca Mountain. Apparently this administration already takes our five electoral votes for granted. Don't let them.
