Columnist Muriel Stevens: Lingerie gets cheeky at Avenue

Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004 | 8:27 a.m.

Sexy scanties for women size 14 and up are available at three Avenue stores in Las Vegas. Avenue is a retailer specializing in women's fashions from sizes 14 to 32.

Women's lingerie styles usually change with the times. Boy-cut briefs are fast replacing the thong. Avenue calls their boy-cut briefs "Cheeky Panties." Terry Meichner, who is senior vice president of intimate apparel for Avenue, says: "Fuller-cut briefs are making a comeback in a really sexy new way. Our Cheeky Panty is currently our top-selling lingerie item because it looks great on everyone. Our customers are sizes 14 to 32 and they just love them."

Avenue has stores in the Silverado Ranch Plaza at 9875 S. Eastern Ave., Suite E-1, Sahara Pavilion, 4620 W. Sahara Ave., Suite D-3, and Cheyenne Commons, 3033 N. Rainbow Blvd. Or visit www.avenue.com for a view of Avenue bras, panties, shapewear and sleepwear in sizes 14 to 32.

Tips for caring for lingerie: Avenue supplied the following tips for choosing the right undies and caring for them:

Choose fabrics for comfort and function: Cotton offers breathability and comfort; Lycra adds a touch of stretch for shape retention. And for a little luxury, nothing matches the feel of silk.

Find the right fit: Proper fit is crucial. A properly trained salesperson can help you find your correct size. Properly fitted bras and panties give a smooth, seamless look to your clothes.

Take care of your lingerie: Lingerie lasts longer when hand-washed with soaps specially made for delicate fabrics. If you do use a washing machine, enclose the delicate things in a mesh lingerie bag and use cool water and the delicate cycle.

Rebecca Taylor fashions: The hip, celebrity beauties who crave Rebecca Taylor fashions aren't the only ones who love her ethereal, sometimes earthy designs. Rebecca Taylor is a stunning young woman whose memories of an enchanting New Zealand childhood in a seaside village are translated into her fashions.

A visit to Wellington was the catalyst for the colors of her spring 2004 collection, with the hues reflective of the ocean and seashells and little sou'wester jackets, much too pretty to wear in a storm. Taylor fashions can be found in "Chic stores across America, Europe and Japan."

Among the celebs who adore wearing Rebecca Taylor clothes are such TV and film stars as Sandra Bullock, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kate Hudson, Ashley Judd, Cameron Diaz, Julia Roberts, Julia Stiles and many more. In February Taylor will open a flagship boutique in New York City in Nolita.

Meanwhile Las Vegans can find Rebecca Taylor designs at the following boutiques: Musette, 9420 W. Sahara Ave., Musette at Mandalay Bay hotel and Talulah G, 3200 Las Vegas Blvd. South. Prices range from moderately expensive to expensive. As demand for Taylor's clothes grows, prices are bound to increase.
