Fishing report: Anglers find success for bass

Creel census clerks said that both boaters and shore anglers experienced good success throughout the Boulder Basin at Lake Mead.

Boaters fishing the Overton Beach area were successful landing largemouth bass that ranged 14-16 inches in length. The fish were taken in the St. Thomas area and around Fish Island. Crankbait and popper lures were landing the fish. No striped bass were taken in this area.

Anglers fishing in the Echo Bay area reported good success for largemouth bass and several smallmouth bass. The fish averaged 14 inches and were taken around the sandbars. The fish were taken with crankbait.

Shore anglers fishing in the old Vegas Wash area were successful landing striped bass that ranged 12-14 inches. Anchovies were the bait of choice.

Boaters fishing the Saddle Cove area said that striper fishing was still very good.

Hemenway, Horsepower, Pumphouse and North Saddle Coves will be stocked with rainbow trout today.

Willow Beach anglers were successful landing striped bass that weighed in at 29 and 20 pounds. O Henry and stocker trout lures landed the fish. Shore anglers were successful landing stocked rainbow trout that averaged 11 inches. Powerbait and night crawlers were the bait of choice.

Placer Cove, Willow Beach, Aztec Wash and Cottonwood Cove will be stocked with rainbow trout today.

The daytime temperatures are in the lower 40s, while the nights are dropping into the single digits.
