Honors given for driver safety

The Nevada Professional Driving School Association will honor three individuals, Metro Police and KLAS Channel 8 for their contributions to driving education, safety and legislation that make the roads safer.

STOP DUI's Sandy Heverly, whose 14-year effort to lower the legal blood alcohol limit in Nevada to 0.08 succeeded in the 2003 Legislature, will receive the Dan Miller Award for Excellence at the annual awards luncheon Friday at Marie Callender's restaurant.

The association will also honor Metro Officer Phil George for the traffic safety program he presents to local high schools and the Department of Motor Vehicles' Brian Lacey for his work with driving schools.

Metro Police will receive a community service award for its twice daily road reports and Channel 8 for its coverage of driving education and safe driving issues.
