SUN STAFF AND WIRE REPORTS

Harrah's Entertainment Inc. of Las Vegas, the second-largest U.S. casino company, said Tuesday it will sell its hotel and casino in Shreveport, La., to Boyd Gaming Corp. of Las Vegas for $190 million to avoid overexposure in Shreveport.

Harrah's, which already owns the Louisiana Downs horseracing track in nearby Bossier City, agreed in September to buy Jack Binion's closely held Horseshoe Entertainment Holding Corp., which owns the casino in Shreveport.

The Harrah's-Boyd deal would help Harrah's gain approval from antitrust regulators of its Horseshoe Entertainment deal.

Boyd has two properties in Louisiana, a riverboat casino in Kenner near New Orleans and a combined casino and race track in Vinton, said spokesman Rob Stillwell.

Harrah's, which owns or manages 25 casinos in the United States, is selling a property that includes a 514-room hotel and convention center and more than 23,000 square feet of casino space.

Harrah's also has a land casino in downtown New Orleans.
