Fishing: Anchovies catching stripers at Lake Mead

NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE

Boaters have been enjoying fairly good success for striped bass in Lake Mead's Boulder Basin while fishing has been slow for anglers who have been fishing from shore and in the Overton Arm.

Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) creel census clerks report that boaters have caught stripers this week at the 33 Hole, Saddle Cove and along the Hemenway Wall. Large hooks tipped with anchovies are catching the fish.

Because of the cold water temperature, stripers and other warm water fish have taken to deeper water and feed infrequently, according to NDOW biologists. This accounts for the slow action along the shoreline.

Fishing was slow at Willow Beach following last week's rainbow trout plant. The next Willow Beach plant is scheduled for today.
