Students to speak at King competition
The fifth annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Oratory Competition will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Community College of Southern Nevada, 6375 W. Charleston Blvd.
Students as young as 7 will be speaking on the lessons of King in the speech competition being presented by the International House of Blues Foundation.
More than 30 students will be competing for prizes and an opportunity to have their speeches broadcast on KNPR 89.5-FM.
The guest speaker is Las Vegas Councilwoman Lynette Boggs McDonald.
The winning high school student receives a commitment from the Mandalay Resort Group for a $1,000 college scholarship. The first-place winners receive gift certificates from Target and U.S. Savings Bonds from US Bank. Teachers of the winning students receive dinner for two at the House of Blues.

Chabad of Green Valley
will hold its Jewish Birthday Bash at noon Sunday at the Chabad Center, 10870 S. Eastern Ave., Suite 104. Chabad's purpose is to extend a welcoming and helping hand to all in a comfortable and informal atmosphere. The event is open to the public. Admission is $3. Call 897-0770.
