Computer giant’s profit soars

Net income advanced to $2.7 billion, or $1.55 a share, from $1.02 billion, or 59 cents, a year earlier, IBM said in a statement. Sales rose to $25.9 billion from $23.7 billion and would have increased just 1 percent were it not for a decline in the value of the U.S. dollar.
