A fugitive from Oregon charged with molesting a 9-year-old girl and skipping out on his trial was arrested Tuesday in Las Vegas by the U.S. Marshal-led Nevada Fugitive Investigative Strike Team.
Lawrence Edward Hack was using an alias and was living in an apartment near Tropicana Avenue and Pecos Road with his wife and daughter, officials in the U.S. Marshal's Service said.
Hack was indicted on three counts of sexual abuse in the first degree on Sept. 24, 2001, by a grand jury in Malheur County, Ore. The indictment alleges that Hack molested a neighbor's 9-year-old daughter who would visit his home to play with his daughter.
Hack failed to appear for his trial in February 2002, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Hack was booked into the Clark County Detention Center and is now awaiting extradition to Oregon.
The Nevada Fugitive Investigative Strike Team is a task force made up of officers and agents of the Marshals Service, Metro Police, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Nevada Division of Parole and Probation.
