'Something Scottish' is afoot on Saturday
The St. Andrew's Society and the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District will present "Something Scottish," a celebration of Scottish Heritage Month from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Rainbow Library, 3150 N. Buffalo Drive.
The event will include Scottish song and dance, children's activities, haggis tasting, cultural information and sale of Scottish items and food.

Training scheduled for hospice volunteers
Training classes for the Family Home Hospice volunteer program are scheduled to begin Monday. The free classes will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each Monday, Wednesday and Friday through Jan. 30 at the Southwest Medical Associates office, 2651 Green Valley Parkway.
FHH volunteers provide active listening, socialization, companionship and caregiver relief for patients and their caregivers. Beauticians, massage therapists and manicurists are also encouraged to take the course and volunteer their time and talents.
Training is mandatory to become a FHH volunteer.

Community Action Festival set Saturday
The Economic Opportunity Board Community Action Partnership plans the Community Action Festival and Expo immediately following the Martin Luther King Jr. Parade at noon Saturday at the Frank Wright Plaza (corner of Fourth Street and Stewart Avenue).
The festival will include entertainment hosted by KCEP 88.1-FM, a business expo hosted by EOB Community Action Partnership's Micro Business Development Division, children's games, and information booths for community-based organizations.

Seniors offered help in tax preparation
AARP Tax-Aide, a free and confidential tax preparation service, is offering help for locals to get their tax returns done.
The service is available to all taxpayers with middle to low income, with special attention to those 60 years and older.
Since it began in 1968, AARP Tax-Aide has helped more than 27 million individuals file their taxes nationwide.
AARP Tax-Aide volunteers are available to assist locals from Feb. 1 through April 15. The volunteer stands will be located at libraries, malls, banks and senior centers throughout the Las Vegas Valley.
Volunteers may also visit taxpayers in their homes, if they are physically unable to visit a site.

2300 Civic Center Drive, will present its Winter Special Program at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. The program is free, and will include stories and a special winter craft. No registration is required. Call 633-1070.
