Clark County Commissioner Yvonne Atkinson Gates will lead Howard Dean's campaign in Nevada as the state moves toward its Democratic caucus on Feb. 14.
Atkinson Gates said she will advise Dean on issues important to Nevadans, including Yucca Mountain, which will be her top priority.
The commissioner is one of the state's seven "superdelegates," elected or party officials who have a guaranteed seat at the Democratic National Convention this summer.
She said she committed her support to Dean on Saturday after talking to him. She said she thinks Dean is the front-runner among the Democratic hopefuls.
"I think he can do it," she said. "I certainly believe he can beat George W. Bush."
