CARSON CITY -- Birgit Baker, administrator of the state Division of Employment Security, said her agency tried unsuccessfully today to contact representatives of the Horseshoe to offer help to the employees thrown out of work.
But she said the division has talked with representatives of the AFL-CIO and the agency is ready to send out its "rapid response" team to handle unemployment claims. "We're prepared to spend overtime to go out in the evenings," she said.
She said unemployment claims could be filed online (www.Nevadajobconnect.com). Individuals can also get information there about openings and post resumes. The website also contains the locations of state employment offices.
And they can also submit their claims over the telephone. She said her call centers will remain open an extra 30 minutes to an hour to make sure all calls are answered each day.
Baker said the information is confidential whether the Horseshoe was current in paying its unemployment premiums.
