NEVADA DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE

Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) creel census clerks said that threadfin shad, the main food for stripers, have moved out of Las Vegas Bay into deeper water.

Shore anglers were still successful landing stripers that ranged from 14-16 inches in length. Anchovies were the bait of choice.

Boaters fishing near the hatchery area around Saddle Cove were successful landing striped bass that averaged 18 inches. Sassy Shad lures and Crankbait were landing the fish.

Shore anglers reported good success for stripers and a few stocked rainbow trout in the Hemenway Harbor and Pumphouse Cove area following the trout plant. The stripers ranged from 14-16 inches and were taken with anchovies. The trout averaged 11 inches and were taken with nightcrawlers and PowerBait.

Hemenway, Horsepower, Pumphouse, and North Saddle Coves are scheduled to be stocked with rainbow trout today.

Boaters that were casting and trolling large lures in search of big striped bass only found small fish that weighed from 2-3 pounds.

Shore anglers fishing Willow Beach reported good success for stocked rainbow trout following the weekly trout plant. PowerBait and worms were landing the fish.

Placer Cove, Willow Beach, Aztec Wash, and Cottonwood Cove are scheduled to be stocked with rainbow trout today.
