Injured man rescued from building site
Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004 | 11:06 a.m.
Clark County Fire Department's heavy rescue team lifted an injured construction worker off a 60-foot structure at the Wynn Las Vegas site this morning using a crane and a stock basket, spokesman Bob Leinbach said.
The worker was hit with a metal object, possibly a beam, about 8 a.m., Leinbach said. The man was complaining of abdominal and back pain and could not get down from the structure, which is behind the main high rise under construction for the new megaresort on Las Vegas Boulevard and Sands Avenue.
The rescue team stabilized the man's head and neck before loading him into the stock basket with a paramedic.
"We lowered him very quietly, very steadily, very quickly to the ground," Leinbach said.
The man was taken to University Medical Center's trauma center, Leinbach said. He did not know the man's condition.
The rescue took about 30 minutes from the time of the call, Leinbach said.
One fire engine and an ambulance also responded to the call, Leinbach said.
He was not sure what had caused the accident.
