Man killed in I-15 accident
A 51-year-old California man died Monday after he was ejected from his car in an accident on Interstate 15 north of Craig Road that shut down the freeway for about four hours.
Sheroll David Adams of Escondido, Calif., died on the way to the hospital, the Nevada Highway Patrol said.
The vehicle was northbound on I-15 when the accident occurred about 5:30 p.m., troopers said. Troopers said evidence at the scene indicated the driver may have been drinking.
The driver was not wearing a seatbelt.
Driver killed in crash on U.S. 95
An Indian Springs man was killed today after his northbound car entered the southbound lanes on U.S. 95 and hit a southbound pickup truck, the Nevada Highway Patrol said.
The Highway Patrol said the driver of the pickup truck could face DUI charges in the accident for which he was not at fault.
The accident occurred about 2 a.m. near Durango Drive when the 65-year-old driver of a 1997 Chevrolet crossed the highway median into the fast lanes and rammed into the side of a 1994 Mazda pickup driven by a 42-year-old Las Vegas man, the NHP said.
The driver of the pickup and his 38-year-old female passenger were taken to the University Medical Center. Investigators called the man's injuries serious and said the woman suffered multiple "non-incapacitating" injuries.
Their names were not immediately available.
Deadline nears for campaign reports
The deadline is Jan. 15 for all political candidates, incumbents, political action committees, ballot advocacy groups and political parties to file their campaign contribution and expense reports. Secretary of State Dean Heller said.
Heller said he is also asking elective officials to go beyond the official form and provide more information than is required.
Heller said it was unfortunate the 2003 Legislature did not enact reporting changes he wanted. He said the required campaign expense form falls short of providing meaningful disclosure accounting of the money candidates and elected officials received and spent.
He has asked elected officials to voluntarily include information such as beginning and ending fund balances.
Nevada law requires every person who ran for office, including elected officials who were not up for election last year, to file an annual report with the appropriate filing officer -- either Heller's office, the registrar of voters or the local county clerk.
Man killed outside nightclub is ID'd
A man fatally shot Jan. 1 outside the SRO nightclub on East Flamingo Road has been identified by the Clark County coroner's office as Clifton Jerone Brunson, 26, of Chula Vista, Calif.
Brunson was in a group of men kicked out of the club after a fight, Metro Police said. In the parking lot, one of the men got a gun from a car and shot Brunson. He died several hours later at University Medical Center.
No arrests have been made. This was Metro's first homicide of 2004.
Emergency call for blood made
United Blood Services declared a critical shortage Monday for Southern Nevada and parts of northern Arizona, as well as Southern California.
If donors do not respond by early today, an emergency appeal was expected to be issued before noon, an executive for the United Blood Services said Monday.
Local blood inventory levels have reached a critical low due to virtually no blood collected during the New Year's weekend, combined with the lack of available assistance from anywhere in the United States, United Blood Services said.
The nonprofit blood supplier issued the critical alert to 20 area hospitals it serves.
Potential blood donors are asked to call 233-9620 for information and appointments.
Walk-ins are also accepted.
Eligibility questions can be answered by calling 228-GIVE.
