Letter: Carter should be nominated to challenge Bush
Friday, Jan. 2, 2004 | 9:45 a.m.
I have come to believe that the only way to do this is for the American people to draft Jimmy Carter as their 2004 Democratic presidential nominee. None of the present men vying for this nomination have a chance against the Bush machine.
The American people must do something to stop George W. Bush from gaining a second term of office. Only by regaining the White House will this country have a chance to reverse the forces that this current president and his administration have set in motion. If he were to gain a second term, these forces might never be reversed -- a frightening idea.
Jimmy Carter has only served one term as president and is still eligible for a second term. He has had many years of experience working in the world, seeking peaceful solutions to complex problems. He is a man of wisdom who is trusted throughout the world.
If enough individuals contact him at the Carter Center in Atlanta, asking that he respond to the need of the American people, we will not need millions of dollars for a campaign to draft him.
The American people want a man who has no desires other than to help all mankind find peace and security. The American people need a man who can unify our nation and fully challenge this Bush machine.
