Woman killed in accident

A woman passenger in a Honda Civic that plowed into a palm tree in southwest Las Vegas today was killed and three other people were injured, one critically, according to the Clark County Fire Department.
The woman was sitting in the right rear seat and apparently was not wearing a seat belt, which could have saved her life, Clark County Fire Department spokesman Bob Leinback said today.
The occupants, all from California, arrived Thursday night to visit relatives. They had spent the night in a casino and were on their way home, westbound on Robindale, this morning when the driver fell asleep and hit the palm tree. The car was going about 35 to 40 miles per hour, according to Metro Police detective Frank Wygand.
Clark County Heavy Rescue members had to extricate one passenger following the 10 a.m. accident on Robindale Road, several hundred feet from Rainbow Boulevard, Leinbach said.
That passenger was taken to University Medical Center with what Leinbach described as critical injuries.
The driver and third passenger had what fire officials called moderate injuries.
