Midnight fireworks approved

Southern Hills Hospital and Medical Center plans to open with a bang Monday morning, even if it wakes its new neighbors.
The hospital received approval to shoot fireworks for a couple minutes as part of its ribbon-cutting ceremony, beginning at 12:01 a.m.
"We're excited. We think it's a great way of saying, 'Hey, we're open,' " hospital spokeswoman Annette Kinsman said. "It's just a celebration."
The Clark County Fire Department approved the hospital's fireworks permit, Kinsman said.
Much of the area adjacent to the hospital is desert land, but hospital officials hired a company to deliver fliers to 3,000 households within a 5-mile radius to announce the opening and the fireworks.
Kinsman said the flier apologizes for any inconvenience the fireworks may cause and invites people who are up post-midnight to enjoy the event.
