Letter: No worries about gay marriages
Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004 | 8:52 a.m.
Is San Francisco wonderful or what? What a brilliant idea! What a magnificent act of civil disobedience in the face of ridiculous prejudice. I'm proud of my old hometown.
The mayor and the judges are right. California has one of the fairest constitutions of all the states. Discrimination for any reason is forbidden. I think it's wonderful that all those joyous lovers can finally be legally married.
And our president is "worried." Well, good. Because the fact that 40 million Americans don't have health insurance doesn't seem to bother him much. Or the jobless statistics. Or the fact that we have the largest trade deficit in our history.
Gay marriage is a great distraction from America's real problems. But come to think of it, I think his main "worry" is that with all these marriages taking place people just might discover that all the fuss was much ado about nothing.
