Letter: John shouldn’t criticize Bush
Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004 | 8:52 a.m.
Despite reports of rehabilitation, it appears that pop singer Elton John remains England's embodiment of self-indulgence. While appearing in Las Vegas in recent months, Mr. John has had the temerity to publicly ridicule President Bush and at least one celebrity who has supported the president.
Occurring at events deemed to be entertainment, these gratuitous comments were tactless, tasteless and as inappropriate as it would be if, for example, American pop singer Barry Manilow, while performing in London, engaged in similar behavior directed at Prime Minister Tony Blair.
My advice to John is that he just sing his songs, play his piano and save the political comments for Trafalgar Square.
