UNLV junior Ryan Moore carded a 65 on Thursday, leading the Rebels in a charge up the leader board in the second round of the Burns Intercollegiate in Wahiawa, Hawaii.

Moore, who shot 70 in his opening round, was 7-under at the par-72, 6,917-yard Leilehua Golf Course. He climbed into third place individually and was just three strokes behind the leader, New Mexico's Spencer Levin.

UNLV moved from fourth place to second place and trailed New Mexico by one stroke. The Rebels followed their 8-under-par opening round with a 12-under 276.

Moore was not the only Rebel to go low. Ryan Keeney carded a 68, and at 4-under for the tournament was in 14th place. Travis Whisman, who shot 69 in the opener, scored a 70 and was tied for 11th at 5-under.

Wranglers lose

Brian Gornick had two goals and an assist to lead the host San Diego Gulls to a 5-1 victory against the Las Vegas Wranglers. Jason McBain scored for the Wranglers (31-17-5), who dropped nine points behind first-place San Diego in the ECHL Pacific Division.

Saban re-ups at LSU

LSU's Nick Saban has signed a seven-year contract that guarantees at least $2.3 million this year, making him the highest paid college football coach. Under the incentives built into the contract, Saban could make up to $2.7 million this year and up to $3.4 million in 2010.

UNLV owns relay

For the second day in a row, UNLV claimed first place in relay events at the Mountain West Conference championships in Oklahoma City. The men's 200-yard freestyle relay team -- Jonathan Hugo, Joe Bartoch, Brandon Nelms and Bjorn Eriksson -- won in 1:19.64. This is the fifth consecutive year that UNLV has won the event.

Rebels win at home

UNLV snapped a four-game losing streak with a 3-2 victory against Northern Illinois in the first round of UNLV's tournament at Eller Media Stadium. The Lady Rebels were led by Pauline Glenn, who hit her second home run of the season.

Tyson eyes Mexico

WBA president Jose Sulaiman said bankrupt former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson plans to fight in a Mexico City bullring in June. No opponent was announced.
