As one of the many who began their professional careers at the Las Vegas Sun under the guidance of our beloved Ruthe Deskin, I was moved by the recollections of her career by Mike O'Callaghan and Brian Greenspun at her funeral services on Thursday.

As I listened to them, I realized that a simple answer to society's problems would be to supplement the Golden Rule with Ruthe's Rules, which she shared with us as guidelines for being a caring, trustworthy and productive citizen.

With Ruthe's Rules as the moral compass for human conduct, we would have fewer armies, law enforcement officers, courts, needy persons and animal shelters.
