Letter: Kindness evident even at bowling

Ruthe and her husband, Jim, were bowling buddies of my parents, Glenn and Anne Picking, in the late 1970s and early 1980s. In fact, Ruthe, along with my mother, was instrumental in introducing me to my husband, Danny.
He was a member of their bowling team after Jim stopped bowling, and I would go watch them bowl on Friday nights -- and the rest is history. Ruthe, my mom and I bowled together in several leagues during the 1980s. Although Ruthe was some 45 years my senior, we always had a terrific time. She and I even won a state doubles event one year, which, of course, was old hat to her, but thrilling for me.
For all of Ruthe's journalistic accomplishments and her many community endeavors, I will always remember her kindness, her love of life and her influence on my life. I don't think I ever told Ruthe what a role model she was for me, and I regret that now. I can't remember Ruthe ever having a bad thing to say about anyone.
Being a lady seems to have gone out of style now. But Ruthe was truly a real lady and I will miss her a great deal.
