LARAMIE, Wyo. -- The UNLV women's basketball team shot a season-high 56 percent from the field and held off a late rally by Wyoming to claim a 66-55 victory on Thursday night in Mountain West Conference action.
The Lady Rebels improved to 18-4 overall and 7-2 in the conference, keeping them in a tie for second place with New Mexico. The Lobos upset first-place Utah on Thursday night.
Despite Ashley Elliott's game-high 31 points for the Cowgirls (8-15, 4-6), the Lady Rebels didn't allow anyone else to score more then six points.
UNLV countered Elliott's effort with its "Big Three," as RanDee Henry (21 points), Sheena Moore (11) and Sherry McCracklin (13) combined for 49 of the Lady Rebels' points.
A 6-1 run by UNLV to begin the second half gave the Lady Rebels their largest lead of the night, 38-23.
Three-point shooting kept Wyoming close, and the Cowgirls' third trey of the half brought them to within five, 42-37 with 9:02 left.
UNLV answered with a 9-2 run, and InFini Robinson's layup with 5:27 left gave her team a 51-39 edge, and the Cowgirls couldn't get closer than seven the rest of the way.
The Lady Rebels conclude their road trip Saturday at Colorado State beginning at 7 p.m.
