Black History party set at Fitzgeralds
As part of Fitzgeralds' second Black History Month celebration, the public is invited to attend several events on Fremont Street.
The United We Funk concert, which will consist of members of the Dazz Band, Midnight Star and Confunkshun, will begin at 8 p.m. Friday. The Taste and Sounds of Soul, which features a number of soul food restaurants, will be selling their food on Fremont Street from noon to 10 p.m.
Tickets are $25/$35 and can be purchased at the Fitz Gift Shop.
New Vista Ranch benefit scheduled
New Vista Ranch will host its third annual Steak Fry from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Elks Lodge 1468, 4100 W. Charleston Blvd., to benefit the residents and programs of New Vista Ranch.
The event costs $20 and includes choice of a barbecue steak or chicken dinner, along with all the sides and dessert.
The attendees can dance to a live country rock band or participate in the silent auction.

Museum schedules Latin carnival
The Las Vegas Art Museum will host a Latin carnival from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday at the museum, 9600 W. Sahara Ave.
The celebration will include a sampling of traditional Latin American delicacies from local restaurants, plus shopping through a vast array of Hispanic crafts, as well as bidding on silent auction items that will include one-of-a-kind masks and pinatas, dance contest, art show, and a raffle drawing for a Fernando Botero poster.

The Peace Corps Pizza Night
will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Metro Pizza, 1395 E. Tropicana Ave. Call Shannon at 895-0308 to RSVP.
Henderson to host citizens academy
Henderson Police are accepting applications for their upcoming Citizen Police Academy.
The 14-week academy meets from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. each Tuesday to educate citizens with a unique insight into the life and training of a Henderson Police Officer.
During the 14-week academy, topics discussed include community policing, use of force, gang enforcement, detention center, communications, investigations division and narcotic enforcement.
The department's Special Response Team will demonstrate various firearms, less-than-lethal weapons and chemical agents. Students will also have the opportunity to fire various weapons.
Potential candidates must be at least 21 years old and live or work in Henderson.
