Rose says ethics panel accepted new complaint against mayor

Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004 | 10:17 a.m.

Las Vegas retiree Bob Rose said Tuesday that his complaint against Mayor Oscar Goodman has been accepted by the Nevada Commission on Ethics, which Rose said sent him a letter informing him of the process that will take place.

Commission Executive Director Stacy Jennings would not confirm Rose's contention. The commission does not confirm or deny complaints until they have cleared a two-person review panel, which either sends the complaint to a full commission hearing or declines to pursue the complaint.

The elected official who is the target of an ethics complaint has 10 days to respond to the commission. Jennings will write a report and a recommendation, and give that to the two-person panel, which has 60 days from when the complaint was accepted to make a recommendation on whether or not a full hearing is warranted.

Rose filed the complaint following Goodman's disclosure that he passed out invitations to a cocktail party meant to promote his son's business while the mayor was in Washington, D.C., for the U.S. Conference of Mayors meeting. The business, iPolitix, uses software to analyze voter reaction to issues, and is a partnership that includes Ross Goodman and Councilman Michael Mack.
