Scholarships available for study in Japan

The Japanese government is offering one-year scholarships in Japan to undergraduate students majoring in either Japanese language or Japanese culture.

To qualify, applicants must hold U.S. citizenship, be current undergraduate students majoring in one of the above fields of study and have studied for more than one year as of April 1.

Applicants must also be enrolled as undergraduate students outside Japan at the time that they arrive in Japan and must be enrolled in their original university at the time that they return to their home country.

A Japanese language examination is required of all applicants. A brief interview in English will follow the exam.

The language examination will be conducted on April 2, from 2:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the Japan Information Center, 50 Fremont St., Suite 2200, San Francisco, CA 94105.

Completed applications must be received by the Japan Information Center at the address above no later than March 26.
