Letter: Americans are much worse off now than in 2000

Now, we have a boondoggle of a government program they like to call Homeland Defense, record-breaking deficits and a so-called Patriot Act that has already been abused to close down men's clubs. Our basic rights are being chipped away (unless you have political influence or can afford a good lawyer), jobs are going out of the country and the president wants to approve the use of undocumented workers.

And then there was the outright lie that the government would use only sound science to approve Yucca Mountain. And all the government can say is, "But the stock market is holding its own."

Isn't there something wrong with this picture?
