Probe asked of lawmaker

A Las Vegas woman has asked the secretary of state's office to investigate reports that Assemblyman Chad Christensen, R-Las Vegas, paid himself from his re-election campaign fund.
The complaint was filed Thursday and said, "I believe the voters of Assembly District 13 deserve a full accounting of Mr. Christensen's campaign finances."
The letter was signed by Vanessa Nordyke, who gave the Secretary of State's office a Las Vegas address in her letter.
She quoted news accounts alleging that Christensen violated state campaign finance laws by paying himself $13,700 from his re-election fund in a one-month period, yet failed to disclose how the money was spent.
Secretary of State spokesman Steve George said a letter does not necessarily launch an investigation. His office first will send a letter to Christensen asking for his side of the story. Then the Secretary of State and the head of the agency's election division will review both letters.
