Letter: Bad intelligence about weapons led to war in Iraq

Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2004 | 8:57 a.m.

Jordan H. Bodenstein, in his Feb. 8 letter to the editor, seems to think that the only searching for weapons of mass destruction was by David Kay and his associates. He forgets that following our ground forces were units equipped with hazardous material suits, ready to disarm any biological weapons that we expected to find, or that when the fighting stopped, Iraqi engineers and scientists were rounded up and interviewed, to no avail.

The hunt has continued since then involving our military and intelligence agencies, but not only has nothing been found, the Bush administration also is now saying that Saddam had the capability to create these weapons. Mr. Bodenstein, like many Americans, seems to be having trouble believing that President Bush would have led us into a war based on questionable intelligence, but that's what he did.
