Henderson DMV office will be closed this weekend
Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2004 | 9:25 a.m.
People planning to visit the Henderson branch of the Department of Motor Vehicles this weekend will have to visit another location instead.
The Henderson branch will be closed for remodeling Saturday through Monday and will reopen at 8 a.m. Tuesday, spokesman Kevin Malone said.
New flooring will be installed in the office at 1399 American Pacific Drive over the Presidents Day weekend, Malone said. Carpeting in the lobby will be replaced with tile under a contract awarded by the State Buildings and Grounds Division.
The department's three other full-service offices in the Las Vegas area will be open Saturday during the normal hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
All DMV offices will be closed Monday for Presidents Day.
Henderson employees who normally work Saturdays will be assigned to the other offices, opening more counters for customers.
"We should have 100 percent coverage of the windows at the other DMVs," Malone said.
Malone warned that the offices could be even more crowded than usual.
"It's best to avoid Fridays and Saturdays in any case," he said. "The best time to come to a DMV is the middle of the week."
Customers at the Henderson branch Monday agreed that trying to visit the DMV this Saturday would be a bad idea.
Pete Recko, 23, who recently moved here from Phoenix, was caught storming out of the DMV with his head shaking.
"There's just too many people in there," he said. "I wouldn't try to come here on a Saturday anyway, if it's this bad during a weekday."
Liz Jaffe, 26, said time is a big concern.
"I just moved here, got a new car and my tags are expiring next week," she said. "I took a day off of work to get this done, but I had no idea it would be so crowded. I was thinking about leaving and trying this weekend, but never mind. I guess I'm stuck."
The other offices are at 8250 W. Flamingo Road, 2701 Sahara Ave., and 4021 W. Carey Ave.
