Lecture on China scheduled Wednesday
The Nevada Committee on Foreign Relations is holding its first statewide event of the year Wednesday, with a presentation by Banning Garrett, director of Asia programs for the Atlantic Council of the United States.
Garrett will discuss "China, the United States and the New World Disorder" at 11:30 a.m. at Lawry's The Prime Rib, 4043 Howard Hughes Parkway.

Before joining the Atlantic Council of the United States, Garrett was a consultant of 20 years to the Defense Department, making 29 trips to China since 1982, and private and nongovernmental organizations on Asia security issues, according to the NCFR.
"Dr. Garrett has developed contacts in northeast Asia through government-sponsored trips to South Korea and Japan and has written extensively on tops concerning regional and functional issues of Central and South Asia," NCFR representatives said.
Church women's groups start season
Central Christian Church is offering a new season for its Mom-to-Mom and Woman-to-Woman groups, to bring local women together for discussions and support.
The group will discuss "40 Days of Purpose -- Developing a Servant's Heart," followed by the Beth Moore study "Breaking Free," from 6:30 p.m to 8 p.m. every Monday at the church, 1001 New Beginnings Drive, Henderson.

'Home' scheduled at Clark County Library
In recognition of African-American History Month, the play "Home" will be presented at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road.
The prize-winning play by Samm-Art Williams, television producer and screen actor, is a fable-like tale of a man's quest to find himself. The three-person comedy drama is an evocation of time, place and people who experienced the transformations of black culture during the period from the late 1950s to 1980.
The play contains adult themes.

The Environmental Protection Agency
is taking nominations for this year's EPA Environmental Awards. The program, now in its sixth year, is looking to recognize individuals and groups who made "significant contributions to improve the environment in the year 2003."
