Letter: Immigration plan bad for U.S.
Monday, Feb. 9, 2004 | 9:03 a.m.
Regarding President Bush's immigration reform plan: He is afraid of losing Hispanic votes.
America already faces economic and social chaos because of the millions of so-called undocumented immigrants. Our schools are a disaster. Our medical system is overtaxed. We spend billions on immigrants in subsidizing rents, food stamps, education, health care, etc.
If Bush's friend, President Vicente Fox of Mexico, and the wealthy of that country would look at their citizens as human beings, America would not be having this problem. But President Fox and the upper crust of Mexico are content to allow the vast majority of their people to live in abject poverty. For them it is preferable to have millions go to America and let the overtaxed and overburdened American taxpayers take care of them.
I hope millions of American voters, come November, will remember that Bush put his interests ahead of theirs.
