Truck rearends traffic, fiery crash kills at least three
Friday, Feb. 6, 2004 | 5:09 a.m.
"Traffic going through the construction zone slowed for the offramp at Lenwood Road and a semi truck rearended a group of vehicles," Sgt. Dan Laza told KCAL-TV.
The crash occurred in the northbound lanes of Interstate 15 shortly before 3 p.m. between the Lenwood offramp and Outlet Center Drive, he said.
At least three people were killed and one person was critically injured, CHP Officer Lee Nuez said. Laza said several other people were taken by helicopter and ambulance to area hospitals. He didn't know how serious their injuries were.
Interstate 15 is the main road from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. Traffic is exceptionally heavy every Friday. The construction project where the accident occurred has been under way for about a year, Laza said.
