Letter: Special interests rule Democrats
Friday, Feb. 6, 2004 | 9:51 a.m.
Paul Gwin's Feb. 3 letter is typical of left-leaning minds.
Is not John Kerry able to mortgage a mansion to get campaign money? Is not John Edwards a rich trial lawyer who has sued doctors, insurance companies and gotten huge settlements that we the taxpayers end up paying for?
Aren't the same Democrats who profess they will evict "special interest" groups from Washington and the White House the same Democrats who solicit campaign contributions from special interests?
Does anyone think that if Kerry or any other Democrat should win the White House that those same special interests would not have the same, if not more, access? Teachers unions, the United Auto Workers, the Teamsters and any other union that supported a Democrat's campaign would certainly have access -- in addition to all the left-wing groups that are trying to control, legislate or tax every aspect of our lives.
The Democrats in Congress are far from poor either. Isn't Ted Kennedy a product of wealth and privilege? There are a lot of millionaires in Congress, who were either born into wealth or married into it.
Americans in the middle class helped elect President Bush and they will again. They are a lot smarter than the Democrats think.
