Letter: Kucinich would stop aggression
Friday, Feb. 6, 2004 | 9:53 a.m.
In July 2002 I saw Rep. Dennis Kucinich on CNN speaking out against Bush's plan to make war on Iraq. I'd never heard of Kucinich but as I watched and listened to this man who spoke with conviction, courage and common sense, I thought, "Why doesn't he run for president?"
I was so impressed I started doing my homework on Kucinich. The more I discovered the more excited I got about the prospect of seeing the representative from Ohio in the White House. Then he announced his candidacy and during interviews spoke intelligently on very issue without missing a beat.
I decided to back his candidacy and sent a couple of modest checks. I put a Kucinich bumper sticker on my car. Then I waited for the media to recognize this man. But alas! The media chooses to ignore Dennis Kucinich.
No, Kucinich isn't movie-star handsome and he didn't grow up with the privilege of inherited wealth. But this former mayor of Cleveland was wise enough to see where our "eye for an eye" aggression would lead this country. Just like myself and millions of others, Kucinich believes that the current administration's actions are not appropriate to the well-being of the majority of Americans. If "Peace on Earth" is ever to become a reality instead of a catch-phrase on holiday greeting cards, the concept has to begin in our hearts. And continue into the voting booth.
