Got milk? Girl Scouts launch their 53rd annual Cookie Sale

Local Girl Scout troops kicked off the 53rd annual Girl Scout Cookie Sale this week with the introduction of the newest addition, Pinatas.

Like traditional pinatas, the new cookies have surprises inside including strawberry jam, a touch of cinnamon, a crumb topping and white sugar glaze.

The new Pinatas have been added to current favorites such as Thin Mints, Caramel deLites, Peanut Butter Patties, Peanut Butter Sandwiches, Animal Treasures, Shortbreads and Lemon Pastry Creams.

Girl Scouts will accept orders for cookies until March 21. Cookie booths will also be set up at leading retailers and food markets March 5-21.

Each box of Girl Scout cookies costs $3.50 of which 60 to 65 cents is kept by the selling troop. In addition, 50 cents from each box sale will be used toward completion of the new Donald W. Reynolds Girl Scout Training and Service Center.
