Police probe sleepovers for possible sex assaults

Detectives with Metro Police's sexual assault section are trying to determine if a 38-year-old man accused of molesting a teenage girl might have victimized other children he met through his coaching of a girls' soccer team.
Daniel Kee, 38, was arrested Monday on one count each of sexual assault and open and gross lewdness after a police investigation found that he allegedly had fondled a 17-year-old girl during a sleepover at his house in December.
According to the police report, more than a dozen teenagers ranging in age from 12 to 18 spent the night at his house near Rancho and Alta drives for his son's 18th birthday. Kee's younger children also had friends staying the night.
At the birthday party, Kee allegedly asked the 17-year-old girl "if she wanted to get drunk tonight," the report says.
Kee took some of the children to Smith's, where he bought wine coolers for the 12- and 13-year-olds and beer and hard liquor for the older teens, the children told police.
The victim said she fell asleep on a bedroom floor and awoke to find her pants undone and Kee fondling her. She jumped up and ran into the living room where she told her friends what happened, police said.
"Kee told (the victim) that if she was going to over-react like that, she would have to leave his house," the report says.
She ran from the house and jumped a wall in the back yard, then ran toward U.S. 95 "with the intention of killing herself," the report says. A friend caught up with her and convinced her to come back to the house.
In the morning, the victim told an adult what had happened the night before and police were called to the house.
When questioned by police, Kee said he was intoxicated that night and didn't think he sexually assaulted anyone.
A warrant for his arrest was issued Jan. 25. He was taken into custody about 4 p.m. Monday.
