UNR prof wins Gunnerman Award

RENO, Nev. AP) -

(Reno- A University of Nevada, Reno professor is being recognized for his work in advanced shock and vibration control systems.

Faramarz Gordaninejad was named Wednesday as the 2003 recipient of the Rudolf W. Gunnerman Silver State Award.

The $25,000 award and medal was established in 2000 by Reno industrialist and inventor Rudolf Gunnerman to recognize scientific and technical achievements based on work conducted primarily in Nevada.

The award is administered by the Desert Research Institute.

Gordaninejad's work led to the development of a controllable shock absorber that provides advanced vibration control for aircraft, automobiles, motorcycles and bicycles.

The technology is also used on submarine weapons systems, as well as bridges and buildings to protect them during earthquakes and strong storms.
