Columnist Peter Benton: Dolan wins honors at PGA section pro-am event

The Spanish Trail Country Club was the site last week of the Las Vegas Chapter, Southwest Section of the PGA's ST Pro-Am, an individual low net for the professionals, and a one low net, one low gross of foursome (one pro and three amateurs,) in the team event.
Kim Dolan (Craig Ranch) and his 1-under-par 71 narrowly won low individual professional honors over Mike Davis (Rio Secco) and Dave Barnhart (unattached), who shared second with 72s. SouthShore's Travis Long placed fourth at 73.
Brady Exber won low gross amateur honors and Dave Kitchen and his 67 garnered low net.
In the team segment of play, Mike Davis along with Denny Wade, Brady Exber and Lawrence Chan won the team segment of play with a 124. Donny Long (Palm Valley) and his amateur team of Dave Kitchen, Jeff Ayden and Craig Colbert were second at 125, with third place going to Barnhart's team of Joe Murphy, Larry Stevens and Bob King. Their score was 127.
Burke is a two-time Ryder Cup captain who played in five Ryder Cup matchers. He also won the Masters and the PGA Championship in 1956 while earning Player of the Year honors. He was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2000.
Jones, an eight-time winner on the PGA Tour, never played in the Ryder Cup. He is, however, very familiar with Oakland Hills as it was there in 1966 that he won his only major -- the U.S. Open.
The U.S. holds a 24-8-2 advantage against the European team, but the Europeans have possession of the Cup after their victory in 2002.

The WSNGA's next scheduled event will be Feb. 16 at the Black Mountain Country Club.
