Benefits meeting planned for seniors
Montara Meadows retirement residence is hosting a senior information meeting from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. Representatives from Reps. Jon Porter and Jim Gibbons' offices will be on hand, as well as AARP, the Nevada Division for Aging and Disabled American Veterans.
The goal is to educate seniors regarding benefits available to them and changes to the Medicare program.
All seniors are welcome to attend and snacks and beverages will be served. Call 435-3150.
AIDS Awareness Day event scheduled
The fourth annual observance of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, a nationwide community mobilization effort to call attention to the disproportionate incidence of HIV/AIDS among blacks will be held Saturday at these locations:
9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Second Baptist Church, 500 Madison Ave.; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Victory Missionary Baptist Church Annex, 1312 F St., Suite 104; 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road.
The vision of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is to mobilize African American communities to "get tested, get educated and get involved."

Hazardous materials panel meeting open
The Governor's Hazardous Materials Interagency Task Force will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Sawyer State Office Building, 555 E. Washington Ave., for the second in a series of meetings to discuss a broad range of Nevada hazardous materials issues.
Gov. Kenny Guinn has directed the interagency task force to develop methods to improve coordination of enforcement and regulation activities as well as communications among government agencies that regulate hazardous materials.
The meeting, which is open to the public, will include discussion of recommendations from the Clark County Hazardous Materials Business Site Task Force report. Call (775) 684-7520.
