Israeli ambassador to speak at UNLV

Israeli Ambassador Daniel Ayalon is scheduled to discuss peace prospects in the Middle East at 7:45 p.m. Jan. 18 at UNLV's Artemus Ham Concert Hall.

As the Israeli ambassador to the United States, Ayalon has spent his last two years as a major player in negotiations for the roadmap to peace and Israel's disengagement plan.

As part of the Barbara Greenspun Lecture Series, the event is free and open to the public, but tickets are required. Tickets are available in the UNLV Performing Arts center box office starting Jan. 8.

Fitness fair starts new year

Wild Oats will hold a fitness fair 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at 517 N. Stephanie St., Henderson, to help its customers start the New Year on the right foot.

Customers can learn about a holistic approach to wellness and nutrition through classes, lectures, health screenings and educational promotions. Topics will include fitness, "superfoods," eating and feeling better, and skin and personal care.

State Sen. Sandra Tiffany, R-Henderson,

will be the guest speaker at Hispanic in Politics' next breakfast meeting 7:15 a.m. Wednesday at Tamales Dona Maria, 910 Las Vegas Blvd. South. The topic is "A Proposal to Divide the Clark County School District." Admission is $12. RSVP at 387-3821.

These locations will host blood drives next week for United Blood Services, 6930 W. Charleston Blvd.:

Monday: 10 a.m.-9 p.m., Galleria at Sunset, 1300 Sunset Road, Henderson.

Tuesday: 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Albertsons, 9725 S. Maryland Parkway.

Wednesday: 9 a.m.-2 p.m., St. Rose Dominican Hospitals Siena Campus, 3001 St. Rose Parkway, Henderson.

Jan. 8-9: 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Rampart Casino.
