A Christmas tree sparked a fire Tuesday that caused extensive damage to a one-story stucco house in northwest Las Vegas, said Tim Szymanski, spokesman for Las Vegas Fire & Rescue.
The damage to the home in the 4900 block of Tenaya Way is estimated at $200,000, Szymanski said.
Firefighters put the flames out within minutes after arriving at the blaze that began shortly after 7 p.m.
In addition, two family dogs died in the fire, Szymanski said.
No other injuries were reported.
Meanwhile an electrical malfunction is being blamed for a blaze that consumed five houses under construction and damaged four others in the northern valley Monday night, Bob Leinbach, a spokesman for the Clark County Fire Department, said.
About 15 units and 40 firefighters from Clark County, North Las Vegas and Las Vegas Fire & Rescue worked to extinguish the fire, which firefighters said caused about $1 million in damage.
