Annan, others to blame for scandal
Wednesday, Dec. 29, 2004 | 9:19 a.m.
This letter concerns the United Nations' "Oil for Food" program that took place for years in Iraq after the Gulf War.
To date, investigations prove that several countries were involved with the gross infractions that have lately characterized the program. These infractions occurred with the blessing of the U.N., whose secretary general, Kofi Annan, refuses to resign.
I say that all officials who are not calling for his resignation have blood on their hands -- the blood of the thousands of Iraqi citizens who were slaughtered during the period of time when the Oil for Food scandal was being consummated.
After all, Saddam Hussein could not have been able to control his countrymen and kill off opponents to his policies without the billions of dollars he obtained in these illicit dealings.
