Lone Mountain Road shuts down
As part of the Upper Las Vegas Wash Channel Project, Lone Mountain Road will be closed to all through-traffic until Feb. 14 between Losee Road and Berg Street. Detours are posted.
Additionally, in conjunction with continuing work on the construction of Desert Horizons Park, Simmons Street, between Gowan and Alexander roads, will be closed to all through-traffic beginning Monday.
The roadway closure is scheduled to continue for approximately three months.

Deadline nears for ACT writing test
The new optional writing test will make its debut on the Feb. 12 national test date for the ACT Assessment.
College-bound students should register by the Jan. 7 postmark deadline. The late registration postmark deadline is Jan. 21 (an additional fee is required for late registration). Students can register online at www.actstudent.org, or they can get a registration packet from their high school guidance counselor and register by mail.
Students may decide to take the ACT Assessment with or without the writing test, depending upon the requirements of their prospective colleges. Students can find out if particular colleges require the writing score by doing a search at www.actstudent.org.
The cost of the ACT Assessment is $28 without the writing test, and $42 with the writing test.
Scotty's Castle sets New Year's schedule
The National Park Service at Death Valley National Park invite the public to spend an evening at Scotty's Castle on New Year's Eve or New Year's Day.
Rare nighttime tours of the 1939 castle will be conducted at 6 p.m., 6:20 p.m., 6:40 p.m. and 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Admission is $9 for each person aged 16 to 61); $7 for each person 62 or older seniors; $4 for children, ages 6 to 15.
Each tour will last one hour.
