Letter: Nonsmokers not feeling welcomed in local casinos

Monday, Dec. 27, 2004 | 9:02 a.m.

If nonsmoking areas in a casino are less profitable, you can blame those who are addicted to cigarettes, alcohol and gambling. The smoker is welcomed and made comfortable, so that he will get drunk and lose his paycheck.

If you're a nonsmoker, and complain that a smoker just sat down next to you, you're ignored or told that there's nothing anyone can do. Does that make you feel welcome? Does that make you feel comfortable? Does that cause you to gamble less or leave? Yes!

Some people say they would not support any law that would deter people from coming to Las Vegas. Wake up and smell the coffee -- nonsmokers have been put off from coming to Las Vegas for years. If a California casino welcomes nonsmokers, makes them feel comfortable and promptly acts on their complaints, why come to Las Vegas?
