Tractor-trailer hits pedestrian

A 23-year-old man remained in critical condition this morning at University Medical Center as a result of being struck by a tractor-trailer in North Las Vegas on Wednesday night.

North Las Vegas Police say Kedrick Johnson was crossing the 200 block of West Cheyenne Avenue between Martin Luther King Boulevard and Losee Road about 8:45 p.m. when he was hit by the truck.

An investigation continued this morning into why Johnson was walking in the eastbound travel lane of the 50 mph zone. Evidence at the scene indicated the truck driver did not see Johnson until it was too late, police said. Judging by damage to the left front of the truck, officers believe the driver swerved to avoid him but launched him into the turn lane, where he was found.
