Many government and service agencies will be closed Friday and Saturday, Christmas Day. Here's a list of what will be open and closed.
SAFETY: Police and fire emergency services as usual. Offices closed.
UTILITIES: Closed Thursday, Friday and Saturday: Nevada Power Co., Southwest Gas. Closed Friday and Saturday: Las Vegas Valley Water District. Open but closing early Friday, closed Saturday: Sprint, Cox Communications cable television.
GOVERNMENT: Closed Friday and Saturday: Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas, Boulder City, Clark County, state, courts, federal offices, federal courthouse.
SCHOOLS: Closed, no classes: Clark County School District (classes resume Jan. 3), UNLV (classes resume Jan. 18), Community College of Southern Nevada (classes resume Jan. 24.).
DELIVERIES: Open Friday for deliveries and pickups, closed Saturday: U.S. Postal Service. Open Friday for deliveries but no pickups, closed Saturday: United Parcel Service.
NEWSPAPER: The Las Vegas Sun's offices closed both days. The Sun is published in combined morning editions with the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
TRANSIT: Downtown Transportation Center: Open Friday, closed Saturday. City Ride natural gas buses: Regular schedule Friday with three vehicles in operation, not running Saturday. Citizen Area Transit: Regular schedule Friday, weekend-holiday schedule (fewer buses on fixed routes) Saturday.
LIBRARIES: Closed Friday and Saturday: Las Vegas-Clark County District, Henderson District, North Las Vegas District, Boulder City District.
GARBAGE: Republic Services of Southern Nevada pickups as usual.
FINANCIAL: Closed Friday and Saturday: Brokerage firms, some banks. (Note: State law gives banks the option of opening on holidays as long as transactions are posted to the next regular business day. Check your local branches for holiday hours.)
PARKING: Las Vegas city parking metered spaces are free both Friday and Saturday.
