Three Kings’ crowns year for Musical Arts Society

Friday, Dec. 17, 2004 | 8:50 a.m.

The Southern Nevada Musical Arts Society, celebrating its 42nd season, will present "Chrismas with the Musical Arts Society" at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Horn Theatre at the Community College of Southern Nevada on the Cheyenne campus (3200 E. Cheyenne Ave.).

The Society's annual Christmas program, under the direction of Dr. Douglas R. Peterson, will feature the Musical Arts Chorus in a performance of Anders Ohrwall's "The Three Kings" with narrator and instrumental accompaniment.

The work, sung in English, takes its text from writings dating from 1635 by Bishop Olof- sson of Linkoping, Sweden.

The 20-voice member Musical Arts Singers will be heard in Harry Simeone's delightful setting of " 'Twas the Night Before Christmas," in addition to selections from the "Seven Joys of Christmas" by Kirke Mechum.

Additional selections by the Musical Arts Chorus include excerpts from "Christus," an unfinished oratorio by Felix Mendelssohn, and Handel's "Messiah."

The Program will conclude with "An Irving Berlin Christmas" and Christmas caroling by members of the audience.

Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for seniors, military and disabled, and $5 for students, and are available at the door (Horn Theater) on the day of performance or may be purchased in advance at the UNLV Performing Arts Center Box Office (call 895-2787).
